News Release: 3/3/2026
Culpeper has engaged the Virginia Tech Center for Economic and Community Engagement (VT CECE) to conduct a short-term planning effort focused on understanding three options for the future of the Culpeper Courthouse:
1. Remain on the current site in historic downtown and expand and modernize the Courthouse
2. Build a new Courthouse within the Town of Culpeper, outside the historic downtown
3. Build a new Courthouse outside of Town, within Culpeper County
The County must begin a five-year process to either expand and modernize the existing Courthouse or construct a new facility to meet long-term judicial space needs and address significant circulation and security deficiencies. This study will draw on case studies from similar communities, Culpeper-specific data, and input from individuals and organizations across the community to help decision-makers better understand the benefits, challenges, and key considerations associated with each option.
The study is not intended to recommend a specific outcome. Rather, it is designed to provide objective information that clarifies tradeoffs and highlights factors decision-makers should consider before determining next steps.
As part of this process, VT CECE is seeking input through a brief community survey. Your feedback will help ensure the study reflects a broad range of community viewpoints.
The survey is confidential, takes approximately 10–15 minutes to complete, and will remain open through Thursday, March 12th. There are no right or wrong answers, and participation does not imply support for any particular scenario. Responses will be aggregated and will not be attributed to individuals by name.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to share your input and for your continued engagement in the future of the Culpeper community.
